SONG SONG is pleased to present „treasure“
New show by Gilbert Bretterbauer.
Born 1957 in Vienna, Gilbert Bretterbauer graduated from the University of Applied Arts in 1982. After 2 years of post-graduate studies in Japan he received the MAK-Schindler stipend in Los Angeles, where he started his company bretterbauerobjects.com. since 2011, Bretterbauer has been teaching textile.art.design at the art university in Linz.
The work is situated between fine art, textile art, textile installations & design, furniture & text. The combination of these disciplines, which might at first glance not be connected to each other, give G.B. the opportunity to unfold a huge panorama of creativity. This range reaches from pattern paintings, collections for textile interior designs & carpets, furniture, understood as art & function, to interventions in architecture by means of using textiles as space defining elements.
Besides his shows in galleries Gilbert Bretterbauer realised textile house in Los Angeles, applied works at the Novartis campus in Basel (arch. Adolf Krischanitz) & the interior textile-designs at Swiss Re Centre for Global Dialogue in Rüschlikon (arch. Marcel Meili / Markus Peter).
The group of works presented at SONG SONG is named “treasure” and entails embroidery that exemplify Gilbert Brettbauer’s artistic practice. The patterned constructions and color gradients show the simultaneous view from different perspectives. The resulting unnerving spatiality is deepened by the threaded surface.
